The Chief Executive Officer for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Osei Assibey Antwi, has called on residents in Kumasi to make good use of their backyards by developing them into farms. He said intensification of backyard farming will not only help to feed themselves but to also augment food production in the metropolis. The Africa Rugby tournament schedules for 2018 was announced last week and Ghana has been included in the Men’s 15s Bronze Cup in April 2018 as well as in the Men’s 7s Tournament in October 2018. Government’s attempts to modernise agriculture in the country could have “disastrous consequences” for the sector and consumers, the General Agricultural Workers’ Union (GAWU) has warned. The General Agricultural Workers Union, an umbrella of the Ghana Trades Union Congres, has asked government to cancel the celebration of farmers’ day as a statutory public holiday, arguing it has no significance to the country’s hardworking farmers and fishers. “The holiday has no significance to farmers.
