Former President John Mahama says he expects the resignation of Robert Mugabe as President of Zimbabwe to revive democracy and prosperity in the southern African nation. The 93-year-old Mugabe who had initially refused to cede power, voluntarily resigned Tuesday to abruptly end an impeachment hearing that was backed by his own Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party. The Supreme Court will on November 28 decide whether to suspend the Attorney General from proceeding to orally examine embattled businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, on the GHC51.2 million he owes the state. The Attorney General has since July this year tried without success to examine Mr. Woyome on the amount, which was wrongfully paid to him in a bid by the State to determine his properties and use same to recover the money. The Labour High Court in Accra has dismissed an action brought by some ex-soldiers who were challenging their wrongful dismissal from the Ghana Armed Forces seven years ago. The 1,350 ex-soldiers sued the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Chief of Defence Staff with the Attorney General as a nominal party, arguing they were wrongfully discharged from the GAF in 2010. The Coalition of Concerned Nurses and Midwives has petitioned the Minister of Health to immediately relieve the director of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital of his post. The petition comes in the wake of the director’s alleged continuous abuse and disregard for nurses and staff’s human rights, conflict of interest, mismanagement of hospital resources among others.
