A total of 13 students from Tema-based Delhi Public School International (DPSI) Ghana have booked their tickets for the 2018 edition of the National Spelling Bee competition. They include Adam Koray Seidu, Kwabena Adu Asare, Chayel Annie Mefful, Raj Thakwani, Naimah Agbenoto, Ashkaya Lakshika, Kwaku Addo Asamoah, Tumi Asare Darko, Shrirang Chandankheda, Sibongile Henaku, Michelle Lawson and Hawa Tijani. They are among a total of 57 students who qualified for the contest from Tema. The third edition of the worm-free child project came off last week at the Dr. Bannerman park in Korle Gonno, Accra treating children to good food, music and play. The health exercise that provides medical assistance and moral support to deprived communities with high incidence of worm infestation was a sight to behold as the children gathered together to partake in the exercise. The wives of police officers in the Upper East Region have been entreated to give their husbands peace of mind and support to enable them carry out their duties effectively.  The Upper East Deputy Regional Commander of Police, ACP Paul Ayittey, gave the advice in Bolgatanga at the 30th Anniversary celebration of the Police Wives Association (POLWA). A total of 19,815 birth registrations were recorded in the Upper East Region between January and September this year, officials have revealed. The figure represents 72 per cent of the 36,670-target given to the region. Speaking at the commissioning of a refurbished regional office of the Births and Deaths Registry in Bolgatanga by the World Vision International and UNICEF, officials announced they are targeting 100 per cent of birth registration. Small-scale miners in the country say they have begun feeling the heat of government’s ban on small-scale mining, claiming some of them are dying because their legitimate businesses have collapsed. All elected executives of the All People’s Congress (APC) at the constituency, regional and national levels, have been stripped of their positions. Outspoken Ghanaian professor, Stephen Kwaku Asare, is begging President Nana Akufo-Addo not to sign into law, the Major Mahama Act, a trust fund to cater for the wife and two children of the military officer who was gruesomely murdered. Four people accused of booing First Lady Grace Mugabe are facing charges of undermining the president’s authority. They were arrested after a rally in Bulawayo where Mrs Mugabe spoke last Saturday, the state-owned Herald newspaper reports. They have now been released on bail and have not yet commented on the charges.
