Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire will on Tuesday sign an agreement in Accra to guide the two countries in the implementation of the landmark judgement in the maritime dispute between them. A joint Commission will also be inaugurated to spearhead the implementation of judgement passed by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on the delimitation of the maritime boundaries of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. Three major roads within the Accra Metropolis will be closed to vehicular traffic for hours on Monday, the Police in Accra have announced. At exactly 11:00am, the roads from the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue towards Accra central, the Atta Mills Highway [from James Town towards Osu] and the Liberation Road towards the central business district, will be sealed off. A well solar-powered irrigation system has been install at Tindongo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region to boost agriculture during the dry season. Sponsored by the Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), the GHC80, 000 irrigation system is intend to benefit over 1,700 persons and offers an alternative to rain-fed agriculture. Poor rainfall pattern in the northern part of Ghana, especially in the Upper East, has been affecting farming activities, causing a reduction in food production. The United Nations has appointed a former National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation of Ghana to head the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). UNDOF ‘s mandate is to maintain ceasefire between Israel and Syria; Supervise the disengagement of Israeli and Syrian forces; and Supervise the areas of separation and limitation, as provided in the May 1974 Agreement on Disengagement. The first scheduled commercial airline service to the remote British island of St Helena in the south Atlantic has touched down safely. The virgin flight, an SA Airlink service from South Africa, ends the island’s long-standing reliance on a ship which sailed every three weeks.
