The Central Region, ranked as the second highest region with high prevalence of teenage pregnancy in the country, has started witnessing a decline in the number of cases, the Regional Department of Gender has revealed. A Ghana Health Service Report indicated that more than 13,000 teenage girls got pregnant in the region in 2015. At least 5,000 teenage girls in the region got pregnant between July and December 2016, the Member of Paliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem, Samuel Atta Mills told Parliament in June this year. Preliminary investigations into the gas explosions that hit two fuel stations at Atomic Junction in Accra last Saturday has concluded, the Ghana National Fire Service has said. A report on the investigations covering among others, the cause of the explosions, will today October 13 be presented to the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, behind closed doors. A gas leak from one of two gas fuel stations within the Atomic Junction enclave reportedly sparked explosions and fire, which extended to adjoining Total Filling Station sent fireballs into the skies. Safety inspections of fuel filling stations across the country will be done four times in a year from next year, the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has announced. Currently, the GSA embarks on inspection visit to these stations twice a year but it hopes to increase that to four times in a year, Deputy Director-General in charge of General Service at the GSA said. He explained that the visits would afford the GSA the opportunity to ascertain whether gas and fuel stations are adhering to the safety standards as required under the law. Two workers of the Ghana Health Service in the Volta Region have been picked up by the Police in Ho for forgery. Bright Paul Yebbi, 32, a former National Service Person and Panidas Fordjour, 33, who were working in the Human Resource Department of the Service allegedly forged the signature of Dr. Joseph Teye Nuertey, Regional Director of Health Services, on release letters for nurses and midwives involving GH¢1,440.00.
