The Ministry of Works and Housing has once more brokered a deal with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to complete the over 2,000 affordable housing units at Borteyman and Asokore Mampong. Work on the projects started by the government to provide affordable housing to Ghanaians, especially those in the civil and public services, have stalled for years due mostly to financial constraints. In March 2014, the Borteyman project in the Greater Accra Region started in 2006 but abandoned, was handed over to SSNIT by the Ministry to complete it within 18 months. Though SSNIT announced the approval…

But the vice president’s office has…
Ghana’s world cup dream died even before it was over the past weekend. For all the protests about South African referee Daniel Bennett’s decision not to award a penalty and disallow what looked a clean goal against Uganda, every Ghanaian football fan knew the die was cast long before that disastrous refereeing performance in Kampala. Disastrous is an adjective that will describe Ghana’s world cup qualifying campaign too. The Black Stars had appeared at three straight world cups on a simple formula in the past; create a fortress at home, become very difficult to beat away but all that was…

I have spent a few days in Zimbabwe, visiting some of the most iconic places of culture, leisure and tourism in the Southern African country. In due course I will tell you about some of the experiences I have had. For now, I want to talk about something very huge that happened while I was away: The thanksgiving service at ICGC to commemorate the 20th anniversary celebration of TV3 last Sunday. The service emphasized the fact that 20 years ago a new station was established, which for the most part of its existence, has led the way in giving meaning…
The classroom block of the Agona Amanful Basic School in the Agona East District of the Central Region has been turned into a ‘ghetto base’ by some miscreants engaged in prostitution and illegal drugs. Pupils of the school say the activities of these miscreants leave their classrooms in a mess all the time, noting they have to sweep used condoms, marijuana embers and faeces every morning before classes take place. Doors and windows to the classrooms are without locks, and currently in a deplorable state, which the pupils say, give the miscreants the opportunity to access the place at night…
West Africa is most at risk of fatal haemorrhagic fever epidemics, including Ebola, researchers said on Wednesday, calling for greater preparedness to save lives. A study in The Lancet medical journal assessed the likelihood of four viruses – Ebola, Lassa, Marburg and Crimean-Congo – spreading on the continent, charting progress from a first human case through to a potential pandemic. The world’s worst recorded Ebola outbreak ravaged Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone between 2013 and 2016, killing about 11,300 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The viruses, which are often transmitted by rodents and bats, can cause fever,…
