The Northern Regional Minister is demanding GHC5,000 from each of the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region to sponsor a three-day tour of the region by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. A letter from the Northern Regional Coordinating Council dated September 29 and signed for the minister by the Chief Director, Alhassan Issahaku, asked the assemblies to pay the money by close of day Monday, October 2. The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has rusticated five students for examination malpractices in the second semester of the 2016/2017 academic year. Two other students are to be expelled from the University for examination related misconduct, Professor John Gyapong, the Vice Chancellor of the University, said at the six matriculation of newly admitted students for the 2017/2018 academic year. The Public Relations Unit of Korle Bu the Teaching Hospital has given a detailed account with regards to the brouhaha surrounding the facility’s decision to terminate a revenue collection contract with UniBank Ghana Limited . The Public Utilities Workers Union (PUWU) believes the Energy Minister has an equally bigger managerial issue to deal with under his nose, and suggested to him to give management of his office to concession. As the sector minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko has been leading the process to privatise the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana. A health researcher is warning Ghanaians against the use styrofoams, popularly referred to as ‘takeaway’ packs, for packaging food. The bowlike packs, which have become popular among food vendors in the country, are reportedly made from black waste from petroleum fuel distillation popularly known as coal tar. Mr Effah Baffo Gyamfi of the University of Ghana Medical School at Korle Bu, who gave the warning said when food is put in the packs, they leach these dangerous chemicals into the food making it toxic for human consumption.
