Former government officials and all persons cited in various alleged corruption scandals under the John Mahama administration are to be put before court soon, Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has hinted.
Describing the scandals as ‘419 scams’, which he said was the hallmark of the John Mahama administration, Dr. Bawumia said everyone found to be involved would be prosecuted.
He mentioned the GHC200 million SADA guinea fowl and tree planting, the Smarttys bus branding, the $23 million runway at the Kumasi Airport , GH¢ 952 million GYEEDA saga, the $14 million mansion for the vice president, and GH¢657m Woyome, Waterville and other judgement debt as some of corruption cases under the radar of the government.
“Ghanaians will find out more [of the 419 scams under Mahama] soon as people are [going to be] held legally accountable”, he told farmers Monday at Pokuase when he addressed them on the importance of the National Digital Property Address System.
Former President Mahama had at the weekend told supporters of the National Democratic Congress in Cape Coast that the address system which was launched last month to give impetus to state institutions and businesses in Ghana is a ‘419 scam’
He questioned why the government would launch Google GPS which is free on mobile phones, as a national digital address system and charge the taxpayer over 2 million dollars for that.
But vice president Bawumia has hit back at Mahama, indicating he lacked understanding of the system popularly referred to as the GhanaPost GPS.
“For former president Mahama to claim that Ghana’s NDPAS and the accompanying GhanaPostGPS app is a 419 scam demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the system,” he said.
He added: “We have been witnesses to 8 years of his governance as vice president and president and we know what 419 scams look like.

“We know a 419 scam when we see one and that unfortunately was the hallmark of the administration of former president Mahama…We have spent $2.3 million on a NDPAS and I dare say it is money well spent for the benefit of all Ghanaians. It is not money finding itself into the pockets of a few cronies. We did not spend it on Akonfem, bus branding, over-priced mansions and contracts, ghost roads, etc” Dr Bawumia said.
