Ghana’s democratic credibility attacked by Ahmed’s murder – US Embassy

The United States Embassy in Ghana has suggested that Ghana’s democratic credibility has been dented by the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale. The journalist was killed by two unknown assailants on a motorbike who trailed him from his house at Madina in the national capital Accra on Thursday evening. The attackers shot him thrice: two in the chest and one on his neck. Ahmed Hussein-Suale was a key member of Tiger Eye PI, a private investigative firm led by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The deceased is said to have played a key role in the explosive investigative piece titled the Number 12 which saw the dismissal of Kwesi Nyantakyi as the Ghana Football Association boss as well as a FIFA council member. The US Embassy tweeted on Friday condemning the murder of the man who is in his early 30s, saying he was only “a young investigative journalist merely doing his job, and calls for a thorough investigation”. The tweet said, “This was not only an attack on Suale, but on Ghana’s climate of transparency, democratic credibility, and press freedom.” Meanwhile, the Christian Council of Ghana joined the number of groups and individuals condemning the attack and called for quick investigation into the murder “Journalists act as informants and watchdogs in keeping our communities safe. It is therefore unacceptable when a journalist is attacked,” it’s General Secretary Dr. Cyril Gershon K. Fayose said. Ahmed Hussein-Suale was survived by two wives and four children.
