Zimbabwe’s embattled leader Robert Mugabe has vowed to stay in power for several weeks, despite intensifying pressure on him to stand down. In a live TV address, Mr Mugabe said he would preside over the ruling party’s congress in December. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) says it is “utterly shocked” by the sudden death of ace broadcaster, Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong, popularly known as KABA. Zimbabwe’s ruling party has sacked Robert Mugabe as its leader, as pressure intensifies for him to step down as president. Zanu-PF appointed ex-Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was fired by Mr Mugabe two weeks ago, in his place. The party has given Mr Mugabe, 93, until 10:00 GMT on Monday to resign as president, or face impeachment. Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the-soon-to-be established Development Authorities under the government’s Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme will be funded through the one-million dollar per constituency funds to drive rural development. He said the Development Authorities, which included Northern Development Authority, Middle Belt Development Authority and Coastal Development Authority, would receive funds equivalent to the number of constituencies that fell under them to implement their programmes.
