Energy expert, Kwadwo Opoku, has rejected President John Mahama’s claim that his government has fixed Ghana’s energy crisis, which culminated in erratic electricity supply for years. Delivering his last State of the Nation Address in Parliament Thursday, President Mahama said various interventions undertook by his government has seen an end to the crisis that crippled businesses and affected the economy for close to three years. Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has joined the table of Africa’s top footballers after being crowned the 2016 Footballer of the Year on Thursday. The Leicester City player beat last year’s winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and English Premier League mate Sadio Mane to the top gong. Hamza bin Laden, a son of Osama bin Laden, has been officially designated a global terrorist by the United States. Hamza, who is now in his late 20s, was named an official member of al-Qaeda in 2015 and is seen as a possible successor to his father. Since then, he has called for attacks against western capitals. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has described as false reports that its president, Alhaji Issa Hayatou, is under investigation for graft over a commercial deal with Lagardère Sports. According to reports in Egypt, where Caf’s headquarters is based, Alhaji Hayatou was under investigation by the Egyptian Competition Authority for contravening rules regarding contracts for some Caf competitions. The Nigerian army says that one of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has been found, along with her six-month-old baby. She was discovered by soldiers investigating suspected members of Islamist militant group Boko Haram. Nigeria’s military said the young woman is undergoing medical checks. A total of 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram from the town of Chibok in April 2014. About 200 of them are still in captivity. An unidentified woman made a scene Thursday morning on live TV when she hugged and prevented Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, from entering his vehicle after delivering his last State of the Nation Address.
