The indebtedness of water consumers to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has reached GHC846 million. Minister of Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, who revealed this said 58 per cent of the debt is owed by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies while the rest is by domestic customers of the company. “The GWCL is owed to the tune of GHc 846,449,169.00; 42% by domestic customers and 58% by MMDAs,” Mr Adda said at the launch of an electronic billing system by the GWC in Accra Tuesday. Students of the Kwadaso Agric College in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have packed out of their campus as part of a series of protest over government’s failure to restore allowances for agric trainees in the country. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has scrapped its biometric register to pave the way for processes to begin on a new membership registration to be conducted manually. A civil society group has accused the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST), Alfred Obeng Boateng, of abuse of power in the controversial sale of five million litres of contaminated fuel. According to the Coalition for Social Justice, Mr. Obeng Boateng abused his power as a public officer in the sale, hence petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ to investigate him.
