The Director General of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Maame Yaa Tiwaah Addo Danquah, says embattled Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has had no charges preferred against him, so far.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) clarified that the CID does not prefer charges against persons usually invited for investigation.
“We don’t charge until we have finished our investigation and we are very sure of the evidence available that is enough to present somebody before a court of competent jurisdiction,” she said in a interview on TV3’s Midday Live on Saturday.
She disclosed that Mr Nyantakyi has only been cautioned so far.
The GFA President, who is also the First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was invited by the CID after President Nana Akufo-Addo reported him.
He is said to have mentioned the names of the president, his vice and some state officials in a documentary produced by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
He was reported for “defrauding by false pretence”.
DCOP Addo Danquah explained that before Mr Nyantakyi is charged, investigations must finish.
But she assured that the CID will follow the case to its conclusion.
“Until that time he has only been cautioned.”
